Allhallowtide at Barrington Court

Hunt for the Hinky Punk (10am - 5pm)

If you are feeling brave, join the hunt for a Hinky Punk this half-term at Barrington Court. Hinky Punk is the old Somerset name for the mysterious lights said to lure travellers from well-trodden paths into treacherous marshes. Seven Hinky Punks have escaped and are hiding somewhere in the grounds. How many will you be able to spot?

Collect the harvest (10am - 4pm)

There are over 100 different varieties of apple in the orchards at Barrington Court, mostly local and heritage in origin, so why not grab a wheelbarrow and help collect the harvest. It is said that every orchard has its own Apple Tree Man - who would oversee the blossoming and ripening of the fruit – so do keep a weather eye out for ours. Return your brimming wheelbarrows to the drop off point, where volunteers will be bagging up your bounty. This year the apples are headed to a local company to be pressed and turned into delicious cider.

Craft in the cow shed (10am - 4pm)

Get involved in the self-led crafts in the old cow shed. You can decorate your own fairy door, leave a message on a leaf and complete an autumnal word search.

Storytelling

Allhallowtide is a time when the veil between the worlds grows thin: when spirits and sprites, hobgoblins and boggarts, pixies and hinky punks walk amongst us.

Join a story with Sharon Jacksties, a talented storyteller with an impressive knowledge of local legends and folklore. The stories can be enjoyed by everyone, whether you are 4 or 84.

The story telling sessions will be running at 11.30am and 2.30pm on Sat 23, Sun 24, Mon 25 and Sun 31 October.

Family Bushcraft

We will be running 5 hour long sessions between 11am and 3pm in the magical autumn woodland.  Booking in advance is not required, although you'll need to book on the day at Reception as there is limited availability. Each session costs £4 per person.

Each session will focus on a different wild skill:

11am - Foraging (all ages)

12pm - Modern and primitive fire lighting (all ages)

1pm - Damper bread making and marshmallow roasting (all ages)

2pm - Key chain making (all ages)
