The Tracks and Tunnels of Bygone Railways
Join us for a guided history walk, where we’ll explore how the dream of steam led to parkland and pathways on Yeovil’s edge. We’ll talk about forbidden photographs, treacherous routes, and uncover the genuine remaining railway infrastructure at the side of Wyndham Hill which you may not be aware of.
Museum pieces of photographs will of course be shown for context.
This walk will likely take about 2 hours along a flat paved route, from Ninesprings café to just beyond Yeo Leisure Carpark, following the paved pathway through Yeovil Country Park. It will be led by Joseph Lewis; Heritage Coordinator at the South Somerset Heritage Collection, and Edd Chilcott, Community Ranger for the Somerset Council Countryside Team. Hot drinks and will be served midway along the route, for a £1 suggested donation to the Friends of Yeovil Country Park.
