Parrett Fiesta Poetry Collection
Join The Women's Ciommunity Forum for the launch of this specially commissioned collection of writings by women and girls who have taken river walks in Somerset and responded to the power of the moment.
Molly Fothergill, aged 10, opens the collection :
Holly leaves, twigs snapping
Leaves crunching, black bird, soft ornate
Fern, knobbly trees, cold, wet moss
Two streams . . .
The river says hallo to me
The river says it’s cold to me
The river says I’m feeling calm
The river says I tried this way
The Women's Community Forum was set up in 2010 and offer programmes of development and empowerment for women and girls of all ages. Their work enriches and transforms the lives of women across the South West England and in Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia and the Gambia.
It is a not-for-profit organisation and any additional income generated from the fiesta will be invested in our programme of creativity projects in 2022.
The Parrett Women's Poetry Fiesta celebrates a little known river which flows through Dorset and Somerset. It stands for all the rivers of the world upon which all our lives depend. Rivers are mystical, magical places. They have so much to teach us, so much to share. We need them more than ever in our turbulent moments.
Our poetry fiesta will help you find and cherish your river spots.
