Astronomy Evening at Ham Hill Country Park - October
THIS EVENT IS FULLY BOOKED, THERE IS ANOTHER EVENT IN DECEMBER.
Have you ever found yourself gazing up at the night sky, wondering what mysteries are hiding in the depths of space? Maybe you have a telescope tucked away in a cupboard doing nothing?
The evening is led by experienced local astronomer, Adrian Dening and following an informative talk, we will venture outside to conduct our own adventure into the Cosmos.
The date is close to a "Hunters" Full Moon so we’ll definitely take the opportunity to look at some lunar features and observe the majestic rings of dust around Saturn. Following our tour of the Solar System, we will visit deep space to see objects like the Pleiades open cluster of stars and the Andromeda Galaxy 2.5million light years away.
Our “special guest” for the evening will be a large piece of the Campo del Cielo meteorite that crashed into Argentina over 4000 years ago!
Warm clothing is recommended as we will be spending time outside. Please note that actual use of the telescopes will be dependent on there being clear skies that evening, but don't worry as we have a "Plan B" if the weather isn't co-operating.
Booking is essential. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
