Giving Dodham a Hand’; a wild and historic day out for children and adults alike. Pond dipping, heritage handing, seed bomb making and building minibeast mansions, all for free!

Join us as we continue our ‘Giving Dodham a Hand’ project, which will provide completely free children’s drop-in activities in Ninesprings, linking Yeovil’s leather gloving past to today’s aquatic biodiversity, and the future of biodiversity along Dodham brook. We’re able to put this on for you lovely folks due to generous funding from South West Museum Development’s ‘Green Grant’, and the Friends of Yeovil Country Park.

Peer into an alien world! Using pond nets and trays, we’ll discover the water-scorpions, bloodworms, tadpoles, newts and other creepy swimmers which lurk in the depths of Ninesprings.

Travel back in time! With the fascinating folks from the South Somerset Heritage Centre, and their heritage handling box, imagine being a child working away making gloves in Victorian Yeovil, find out why Dodham brook once had a whiff of “Hell”, and why not design a glove of your own? There’s already a fantastic historic display in Ninesprings cafe, take a peek!

Take nature and knowledge home with you! Craft some natural goodies that’ll turn your garden or window-ledge into a mini nature reserve, and find out what the nature superheros of Yeovil Rivers Community Trust have planned for Dodham brook in the future.

Walk, cycle, scoot or skate! If you’re able to walk to this event, please do so. We’re trying our hardest to keep our carbon footprint down with this project, so we’d really appreciate it. You’ll have goodies to take home with you, so please bring a bag.

All the activities will be taking place by the main pond at Ninesprings, in and around the pond dipping zone. We are all so excited about this and cannot wait to see you there!

All children must be accompanied by an adult.
