Sounds of Yeovil for Heritage Open Day

Join South Somerset Heritage Collection for an exciting pop-up Museum for Heritage Open Days and Super Saturday!
Sounds of our Lives at Yeovil Library, King George Street, Yeovil, BA20 1PY. Saturday 16 September 2023 from 10am-2pm
Discover the sounds of Yeovil through some of the objects and photographs of the South Somerset Heritage Collection.
Aircraft and helicopter manufacture will highlight the 1933 Flight over Mount Everest by two Westland aircraft and helicopter rotor testing on Ham Hill in the 1950s. A special Technic Lego model will reflect this theme in a fun way!
We will have gloving tools to guess how they were used and links to the Glovers, Yeovil Town Football Club.  Aplin and Barrett and cheese production will be another element.
We will also show the importance of the railways to both economic growth and travel and tourism.  Activities include word searches, colouring in and a Flight Over Everest Jigsaw!
We will join with Yeovil Library and Super Saturday to build on our central Yeovil location together with the Yeovil Arts & Heritage Group Story of Yeovil Project.
The Arts and Heritage Community Curatorial Group next exhibition reflecting some of the sounds of Yeovil is due to be in our Yeovil Library Display Cabinet from the 16 September 2023.
